Our Relationship To The Wiccan Rede

The Wiccan Rede can be summed up in eight words:  "An it Harm None, do as ye will."

It is the central law of the Wiccan religion, which tells us to do what we want as long as it harms nobody.

The “none” part means the self, other humans, animals, and plants. Basically all creations of the Mother Goddess.

Similar strains of this Moral Law is found in other religions. It is very similar to the Golden Rule: “do not do unto others what you don’t want others to do unto you, ”except it is absolute.

The spirit of the Rede is not just to do no harm, but to actively do good for one's fellow man as well as oneself.

A lot of outsiders misunderstand it as a free-pass to do whatever you want and whatever feels good without any thought for the consequences, which is WRONG.

The Wiccan Rede is filled with compassion, empathy and respect for yourself, for others, and for the Goddess and the God. It guides and directs our energies for the good of all creations.

All things are connected to one another, we are related to the Universe, the Earth and the Stars. What we do affects everything else. We are very aware of this and we take great responsibility for our actions.

To work with the laws is wisdom; to work against them is chaos. Because we hold this knowledge, we accept responsibility for our actions.

All spells that Witches perform are directed to a positive end and casted after much thought. It should always end with the phrase: "for the good of all and the harm of none". By asking that, we save ourselves and others a lot of unnecessary trouble.

The best spells that a witch can cast is a spell for herself or himself. For example, the best love spells are those that increase your self-esteem, attract love, and ignite a passion. Spells that ask other people to act a certain way without considering free will is not a good spell and might backfire.

Another example is casting spells against someone else causing us harm. We cannot cast a spell to weaken or harm someone else, but we can cast a spell of protection around us. We deflect them without inflicting harm. We neutralize bad energies and send them back to into the Universe.

Just like everyone else, we have free will. We follow the Wiccan Rede not because we will get punished if we don't, we follow it because it's the right thing to do. We act how we should act, not how we have to act.

We are knowledgeable, strong and empowered individuals, practicing the Wiccan Rede at the highest level possible!

Blessed be to all our brothers and sisters! :)

While you may not instinctively connect the clearing out of your home's clutter with achieving Zen, the two are definitely linked. Remember that Zen is a tranquil state involving both body and mind; therefore, your physical surroundings do affect your mental state.
